Prana:

Words that Help You

Think of approaching your yoga practice with words like "allow" and "letting go" and "noticing". These will give you far better results, will make your practice more enjoyable, and will reduce your chances of injury.

Words that Don't Work

"Should", "must", "make happen", "push

Sanskrit term for universal energy; used in yoga (pranayama).

Breath, life, light, universal energy.

The vital breath which sustains life in a physical body; the primal energy or force, of which other forces are manifestations. In the books of Yoga, the prana is described as having five modifications, according to its five bodily functions: prana (which controls the breath), apana (which carries down unassimilated food and drink), vyana (which pervades the entire body), udana (by which the contents of the stomach are ejected through the mouth and the soul, at death, is conducted from the body) and samana (which carries nutrition throughout the body).

What Does Namaste Mean?

(pronounced nah-mah-STAY), means 'the divine in me bows to the divine in you' it is a respectful greeting that is accompanied by a gesture of joining one's palms, with the fingertips pointing upwards. The joined palms are brought close to the chest.

With Yoga, no matter what crises may appear to be insurmountable in the changing world around you, you will hold to the peaceful center that always is and always has been.

Yoga is not something we do but something we become and are.
